Question 1

What is the best exterior shade system for Boise, Idaho?

Accepted Answer

For Boise's climate — with its 100°F+ summers, afternoon winds, and intense UV exposure — MagnaTrack is consistently the top-performing exterior shade system. Its patented rare earth magnet technology handles Boise's wind conditions better than any zipper-based system, and its 97% UV protection dramatically reduces patio temperatures. SunPro retractable awnings are an excellent choice for homeowners who want a retractable option.

Question 2

How much do exterior shades cost in Boise?

Accepted Answer

Exterior shade pricing in Boise depends on the system type, opening size, and motorization. MagnaTrack motorized exterior shades start at $5,000 per opening installed — most single-opening residential projects range from $5,000 to $8,000, and multi-opening projects typically run $8,000–$25,000+. SunPro retractable awnings range from $5,000 to $25,000. Boise Blinds provides free, no-obligation in-home quotes. Call (208) 501-5684 to schedule.

Question 3

Can exterior shades handle Boise's wind?

Accepted Answer

This depends heavily on the system. Standard exterior shades and zipper-based systems can struggle in Boise's wind conditions, particularly in foothills areas like Eagle and the North End. MagnaTrack is specifically engineered for high-wind environments — rated for 75 MPH sustained winds. SunPro awnings include optional wind sensors that retract the awning automatically when wind speeds exceed a set threshold.

Question 4

Do exterior shades reduce energy costs in Boise?

Accepted Answer

Yes, significantly. Exterior shades block solar heat before it reaches your windows, which is far more effective than interior blinds or shades. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that exterior shades can reduce cooling loads by up to 60% on sun-exposed windows. In Boise's 100°F+ summers, this translates to meaningful reductions in air conditioning run time and energy bills.

Question 5

Can exterior shades be motorized and connected to smart home systems?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Both MagnaTrack and SunPro offer motorized options that integrate with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Lutron, and Control4. Automated schedules, remote control, and smart home integration are all available. Many Boise homeowners set their exterior shades to deploy automatically at 1–2 PM and retract at sunset.

Question 6

How long does exterior shade installation take in Boise?

Accepted Answer

Most residential exterior shade installations in Boise are completed in a single day. Larger projects or multi-panel installations may take two days. After installation, we walk you through operation, app setup, and any smart home integrations before we leave.
