Motorized Pergola Shades for Existing Patio Covers in Boise

Start with the outdoor structure you already have.

MagnaTrack motorized vertical patio shades can often be added to an existing pergola or patio cover. Boise Blinds can usually find an attachment solution after an on-site structural review confirms suitable mounting surfaces. Add adjustable side shade to your Treasure Valley outdoor space without assuming you need a new cover.

Designed Around Your Existing Cover

Can shades work with the cover you already own?

An existing pergola or covered patio is the starting point—not an automatic reason to replace the structure. MagnaTrack supports retrofit installations, so the first question is whether your openings offer a suitable place for the shade housing and side tracks.

Boise Blinds can usually find an attachment solution, subject to an on-site structural review. We look at the actual mounting surfaces rather than assuming that every post, beam or decorative finish can support a motorized shade. An attached cover and a freestanding pergola may call for different mounting plans.

A Practical Mounting Plan

What makes an existing cover suitable for mounting?

A workable plan needs more than the opening's width and height. The review considers the condition of the structure, the supporting material behind the finish, available mounting space and a clear path for the screen to travel. The bottom landing surface matters, too.

Supporting structure

We look beyond trim and finish materials to the surfaces that will carry the shade housing and tracks.

Opening and travel

Measurements, track alignment and the bottom landing surface help define how the screen fits and moves.

Your patio priorities

Sun direction, desired views and how you use the space guide the fabric and opening choices.

Bring any available information about your cover's construction to the consultation. Photos can help begin the conversation, but they do not replace an on-site review. If the structure needs additional support or another professional's assessment, that should be resolved before a mounting plan is confirmed.

Pergola enclosures: side screens are not a new roof

Motorized vertical shades add retractable screening along selected sides of your pergola or patio cover. Lower them when side sun or the desire for more separation makes screening useful; raise them when you want the openings clear. The magnetic side-track system manages screen tension rather than providing structural attachment.

A pergola enclosure made with side screens remains an outdoor space. It is not automatically a weatherproof or insulated room. An open-slat pergola still has openings overhead: vertical shades do not stop rain coming through that roof.

Shade, Views & Everyday Comfort

Choose fabric around how you use the patio

Start with the part of the day when your outdoor space is least comfortable. Is low afternoon sun reaching the dining table? Is preserving the garden view more important than reducing visibility from outside? Is insect control your main concern?

Progressive offers solar and insect-screen options, with different priorities for shade and airflow. Privacy and insect control also depend on the complete opening, surrounding gaps and lighting conditions. We discuss those choices during your consultation rather than promising the same result from every fabric.

These supplied project views show how vertical shades relate to different covers, posts and openings. They are a starting point for ideas—not a guarantee that another structure can use the same mounting arrangement.

Plan around the structure and weather

Suitability is confirmed through an on-site structural review and assessment of mounting surfaces. Any needed reinforcement, electrical work, roof work or permit requirements must be evaluated for the specific project; none is assumed included or exempt. Vertical mesh shades do not make an outdoor space weatherproof or insulated, guarantee complete insect sealing or privacy, or provide overhead rain protection for open-slat pergolas. Follow the operating guidance for the installed configuration.

Questions Before You Build

Pergola shades and existing patio covers: FAQs

Can MagnaTrack shades be added to my existing pergola or patio cover?

Often, yes. Boise Blinds can usually find an attachment solution for MagnaTrack motorized vertical patio shades after an on-site structural review confirms suitable mounting surfaces. We do not assume every existing cover is compatible.

Can shades be installed on a freestanding pergola?

A freestanding pergola may be suitable if its structure and mounting surfaces can support the shade housing and side tracks. Boise Blinds confirms the attachment plan on site; being freestanding alone does not establish suitability.

What do you review before recommending an attachment solution?

We review the structure's condition, supporting material behind the finish, available mounting surfaces, opening dimensions, screen travel and bottom landing surface. Photos help start the conversation, but an on-site review is needed before confirming suitability.

Will side screens turn my pergola into an insulated room?

No. Retractable vertical screens add screening to an outdoor space. They do not create a weatherproof or insulated room, replace the roof or resolve structural and permit requirements for a room addition.

Do vertical shades stop rain through an open-slat pergola roof?

No. Vertical patio shades screen the sides, not the roof. Rain can still enter through overhead slats or openings. Roof coverage and drainage are separate considerations from the side-screen installation.

Will the screens provide complete privacy and keep every insect out?

No complete privacy or insect seal is guaranteed. Results depend on fabric, lighting, screened openings and gaps elsewhere in the structure. We discuss your priorities and the limits of the proposed configuration during the review.

Can I leave the shades down in any weather?

No. Follow the operating guidance for your installed system and conditions. A wind-performance claim for one configuration should not be treated as permission to leave every shade deployed in all weather.

For your Boise, Eagle, Meridian, Star, Nampa or Caldwell home, the useful next step is a measured conversation about your existing cover.
